Osmo takes learning to new levels, with a unique gaming accessory that’s perfect for the iPad. Osmo will change the way your child plays and learns. Osmo is designed for children age 5 and up and is compatible with various types of iPad tablets from the iPad Mini, Air and generation 2-4. Kids love it and it has been tested in over 7,500 schools across the world with helpful input from parents and educators.
Currently, the Osmo starter kit retails for $79 in the US, they also offer two other kits; Genius and Wonder which cost between $99 and $145. There are also two different smaller kits that retail between $29 and $49. Each Osmo kit includes an iPad stand and a reflective mirror for the iPad camera; it also includes the pieces for the games and the apps to play the game is available free of charge; however, you need the mirror and stand to play the games.
5 reasons why I LOVE Osmo:
- It’s fun
- Keeps kids engaged with digital and physical play
- Perfect for kids age 6 and up
- Teaches, creativity, problem-solving and social intelligence skills
- Easy to set up and use
A way to use iPad’s while learning and having fun is too good to be true right? WRONG! With Osmo, you can have your children have the best of both worlds with digital and physical play. I received the Genius Kit which includes the base, mirror, game pieces and 5 apps games to download to your iPad. The Genius Kit retails for $99 and includes everything you need for learning numbers, spelling, shape skills and so much more.
To set Osmo for play is super easy; take your iPad and remove any cases you may have in place. Osmo doesn’t work with cases and adjusts the stand to fit your device. On the bottom of the stand there are who slots, slide them and flip them over should you need to change it to hold your device. Osmo works with iPad generation 2-4, iPad Mini, iPad Air and iPad Pro (9.7). Once you’ve gotten that set up slide the mirror over the device’s camera. The mirror reflects what you’re doing on the table to correctly identify your answers.
Download the Osmo apps for free in the Apple App Store; the Genius Kit has 5 apps that go with the game pieces. Three of the apps include game pieces; Numbers, Words, and Tangram. Newton and Masterpiece require and pencil and paper to play. As a mom to 5 children; four of which are attending school in the fall it summer can be hard to keep them entertained and learning at the same time. In comes Osmo; I love that each game has a different setting for children of different ages and grade levels. You start off slow, working your way up to the harder stuff so it really grows with your child as they learn over time. On a game like Tangram; it has a level set so as you progress you can go higher.

The card pieces in Words and Numbers are made of durable cardboard and double-sided, which are perfect for younger ones who want to play too. Personally, my favorite game in Tangram. I remember in school those little wooden pieces you had to make shapes like the teacher and Tangram is JUST like that make the shape on the screen. It’s pretty accurate when you get a piece correctly (or incorrectly) it will highlight on the screen. In order to move on, you need to put the “puzzle” together correctly. Oh and by the way you can totally snag this when the kids are sleeping and play it. It’s fun for adults too because sometimes we need a little boost (and fun!).
I guarantee your kids will LOVE Osmo as much as my kids do, it’s definitely worth the investment in the educational fun in today’s digital age. To learn more about Osmo feel free to visit their website and follow them on Twitter. Ready to purchase? Head over to Best Buy and buy Osmo right now!
